Infant Hiccups: Causes & Treatments in Babies

Internet Gratis - Hiccups in infants are a very disturbing condition originating from the digestive system and can also occur in everyone. Causes of Hiccups 

There are several things that can cause hiccups such as eating too much and fast, drinking soft drinks, swallowing air, smoking, and stress or a sudden sense of enthusiasm. If the hiccup lasts more than 48 hours, another possibility should be considered. Some diseases that may be related to hiccups that last more than 48 hours, namely:

- Irritation or damage to nerves
Nerve damage is the main cause of long-term hiccups. Factors that can cause irritation or damage to the nerves, namely hair or something else that touches the eardrum, sore throat (laryngitis),

- Abnormalities of the central nervous system
Tumors or infections of the central nervous system can cause damage to the nervous system and interference with the body's hiccup reflex can be disrupted.

- Metabolic disorders and drugs
Metabolic disorders such as electrolyte imbalance, kidney failure, high blood sugar. Medications can be due to the influence of sedatives, anesthetics (anesthetics).

Treatment of Hiccups in Babies
Most cases of hiccups will disappear on their own. But if the baby has a long-lasting hiccup it is recommended to immediately see a doctor. Medications that are usually prescribed by doctors for persistent and long-lasting cases of hiccups are  chlorpromazine, haloperidol and metoclopramide.
