Q. Hi Donna: I had a record amount of blood clots during my most recent menstruation. What are they and why? I used to have pain-free periods but now on the first day, I have painful cramps that are short in length but high in intensity. Why is this and what can I do? Thank you as always! Nattasha, Oklahoma

A. Dear Nattasha, You have a healthier and more full uterine lining which is sloughing. You were very high in progesterone in the past and though hopefully the detox cleared most out, retesting at some point to confirm would be helpful. Also, a trial of low dose estrogen might provide additional balance.
I hope this helps.
In good health, Dr. Edward W. Pearson
